Introduction to Electric Fly Swatters

Electric fly swatters mainly use a 4V rechargeable high-capacity lead-acid battery or a 2.4V nickel-hydrogen/nickel-cadmium battery; some also use dry-cell batteries. During operation, a boost circuit generates a high-voltage DC of approximately 1850V (current less than 10 mA, harmless to humans and animals) between the double-layer grids. The electrostatic field between the two grids has a strong adsorption force. When pests such as mosquitoes and flies approach the grid, they are drawn into the space between the grids, and the resulting short-circuit current instantly electrocutes them. The high voltage generated by the electric fly swatter can also release a certain amount of negative oxygen ions, which can sterilize and disinfect as well as purify the air.

Working Principle

The circuit of an electric fly swatter mainly consists of three parts: a high-frequency oscillation circuit, a tripler rectifier circuit, and a high-voltage grid DW. When the power switch SB is pressed, the high-frequency oscillator composed of the transistor VT and the transformer T is energized. It converts 3V DC into a high-frequency AC of approximately 18kHz, which is stepped up by T to about 800V (estimated discharge distance), and then stepped up to about 2500V by the diodes VD2~VD4 and capacitors C1~C3 tripler rectifier, and applied to the metal grid DW of the fly swatter. When mosquitoes and flies touch the high-voltage grid, the insect body causes a short circuit in the grid, and it will be killed or stunned by the current and arc.

In the circuit, the light-emitting diode VD1 and the current-limiting resistor R1 constitute an indicator light circuit, which is used to indicate the on/off state of the circuit and display the battery power consumption.

The transistor VT uses a 2N5609 silicon NPN medium-power transistor, which can also be replaced by commonly used transistors such as 8050 and 9013. VD1 uses a φ3mm red light-emitting diode, and VD2~VD4 use 1N4007 silicon rectifier diodes.

R1~R3 all use metal film resistors. C1~C3 all use high-voltage capacitors (greater than 2kV), and SB uses a 6mm×6mm vertical miniature tactile switch. G is composed of two No. 5 dry-cell batteries connected in series (with a plastic battery holder), with a voltage of 3V.

The high-frequency transformer T needs to be custom-made: Select an EE19 ferrite core and matching plastic frame (six-legged), L1 is wound with φ0.22mm enamelled wire for 22 turns, L2 is wound with the same wire for 8 turns, and L3 is wound with φ0.07mm enamelled wire for about 2000 turns. Pay attention to the black dotted wire ends in the figure, wind in the correct head-to-tail order, and wrap 1-2 turns of high-voltage insulating tape between the windings.

How to Use

The electric fly swatter is equipped with a 4V rechargeable high-capacity lead-acid battery. Each charge takes 8-15 hours and can be recharged 400 times, making it environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. After charging, toggle the switch to choose whether to use the light while killing mosquitoes. Press the switch to kill mosquitoes.

For mosquitoes resting on walls or mosquito nets, press the power switch. The red light will turn on. Point the mesh towards the mosquito and gently approach it. The mosquito will be drawn into the space between the two grids and killed. Turn the mesh downwards, release the switch, and the mosquito will fall. For mosquitoes flying in the air, press the switch, point the mesh at it, and swing it.

Killing Flies. Because flies are more sensitive, certain techniques are required.

1. For flies resting on a flat surface, hold the fly swatter, point the mesh at the fly, gently place it on the same plane 20-30 centimeters from the fly, press the switch, and after the red light turns on, quickly swing it at the fly. The fly will be drawn into the space between the two grids, and continuous electrocution for 1-2 seconds will kill the fly.

2. For flies on a wall, hold the fly swatter, point the mesh at the fly, place it against the wall, 20-30 centimeters below or to the side of the fly, press the switch, and quickly swing it. The fly will be drawn into the space between the two grids, and continuous electrocution for 1-2 seconds will kill the fly.

3. For flies resting on a rope hanging in the air, hold the fly swatter, point the mesh at the fly from 20-30 centimeters away, press the switch, and quickly swing it. The fly will be drawn into the space between the two grids, and continuous electrocution for 1-2 seconds will kill the fly.

If a fly falls on the table, turn the mesh downwards, place it between the two metal bars of the mesh, press the switch, gently move it, and the pest will be drawn into the net. Flip the handle so that the mesh is facing upwards, and you can pick up the pest. No need to pick it up by hand.

Main Advantages

Tripler

The electric fly swatter uses a pioneering tripler rectifier circuit, instantly outputting a voltage as high as 2500V, resulting in excellent mosquito-killing effects.

No Electric Shock

The electric fly swatter can kill mosquitoes while they are biting without harming humans. Even when lightly touching the mesh surface, there is no electric shock.

No Leakage

The electric fly swatter has a special three-layer mesh structure, making it easy for mosquitoes and flies to enter the net without escaping.

How to choose a suitable electric fly swatter

Prioritize electric fly swatters with three or more layers of mesh. For example, a five-layer design, with a smaller mesh in the middle layer, can more effectively trap insects, improving the kill rate.

What are the differences between high-quality and cheap electric fly swatters?

Good electric fly swatters: Usually made of high-quality ABS materials, etc., with good gloss, durability and excellent insulation performance, which can prevent electric shock accidents. Fine workmanship, no burrs or defects, the grid is welded firmly, and the frame is strong and not easy to deform.
